Republicans and the One-Party State

From the Auburn Plainsman, courtesy of LP member Dick Clark:
State Republican Party chairman Marty Conners said he believes in the two-party system and sees no reason for changes.

“This is the United States of America, not Europe,” Conners said. “It’s not a parliamentary form of government. It’s a republic, and we don't need multiple parties. The two party system has served the country very well.”

Yeah, who needs competition anyway? We've already got the best of all possible governements, right?

I don't see another party gaining power anytime soon. Once a party starts to gain support, one of the two main parties will just absorb their ideas.... or the new party will drive out the old party.

I think they have already merged as one party. For evidence, I cite Republicans accuse Democrats of stealing their agenda.
