And then . . . he caused the deaths of 620,000 Americans.

Here are two photos of a billboard on Hwy. 69 just south of Tuscaloosa. That's Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the home of the University of Alabama (the one that Lincoln's troops under General Croxton burnt down in 1865).

(Photos taken by David Allen of Tuscaloosa.)

The billboards were put up by an outfit called the "Foundation for a Better Life." They appear to be a public-service message do-gooder organisation. I doubt they had malicious intent when they put up the Lincoln billboard. Probably just your standard government-school induced ignorance and historical illiteracy.

Here is a copy of an email I sent to the Foundation for a Better Life:

You had 26 billboards to choose from and you put Abraham Lincoln up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama? The war-criminal Abraham Lincoln whose troops burned down the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1865? The Abraham Lincoln who invaded 11 states seeking to exercise their natural and constitutional rights to secede from a voluntary union? The Lincoln who waged a destructive war that killed more Americans than any other in history, destroyed the voluntary union of states and replaced it with a centralised empire ruled from Washington? THAT LINCOLN?! That was quite possibly the dumbest choice you could have made. Did no one at your organisation THINK before deciding to put up that billboard here? I had never even heard of your organisation before, but you can be sure that your billboard is creating a lot of antagonism towards it here in Tuscaloosa. Sic Semper Tyrannis.
