The Republic is Finished

I'm calling it. The Republic is officially dead. Stick a fork in it, were done.

The US Senate passed the REAL ID Act 100-0. That's right, 100-0. Not one senator voted against it, or even abstained. Alabama's "conservative" senators Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby voted for it. Voted to usurp the powers of the states over their own driver's license systems, voted to create a National ID card, an internal passport required for every citizen. Voted to create a massive new federal database with all your personal information--a database sure to be the target of hackers and identity thieves. Neither Shelby nor Sessions has any idea what the 10th Amendment is about, nor what "delegated powers" means. Anything goes in the name of fighting terrorism. The whole stupid herd of senators went running outside in panic because a small plane got lost and flew over the capital. The release of George Lucas's Star Wars Episode III in a few days seems most appropriate. The impotent Senate of the Republic approved every new power grab by Chancellor Palpatine, who soon becomes Emperor of the evil Empire. It's doesn't even take any imagination to see this happening in real life anymore. There seems to be no limit to the freedoms Americans will give up with hardly a bleat.

National ID cards are not the only things contained in the bill. See An Attack on Liberty, 100-0 by Harold E. Smith III for some other disturbing provisions. Random roadblocks and searches are surely not far off. I HAVE FORESEEN IT.

It is sad that I would be inclined to agree with your comments, but I do. There are two good things about this piece of legislation however.

First, a 100-0 passing of this piece of garbage proves without a doubt our representatives are absolutely not acting in our best interests.

Second, this legislation does not affect until 3 years from the date of signing. That means 2008, which is also coincidentally the year of a new Presidential election. Visit www.voters4ventura.com to help persuade Jesse to run for President in 2008. We need someone who will see this law for what it is, an attack on our liberties.
